2010s was a decade of some memorable films and some not so memorable films. From Dangal to Tees Maar Khan, we had it all. The box office grew by leaps and bounds. Female characters became centre stage of many films. Well made films were appreciated. But there were few films that were very well made but probably their theme and content couldn’t go down with the audience of that time & hence they flopped commercially. But today, these films are looked upto. They are considered some of the finest films made in last decade. Here is my list of flop films that I feel were too good to flop.

1. Tamasha, 2015

Yes ! You heard it right. This film is one of the biggest flop in the career of Deepika & Ranbir commercially. It was not ‘entertaining’ enough to make people run to the theatres.

But if you are a die hard fan of cinema, this slow burn sucks you in & makes you fall in love with it instantly. It has been already many years since this film released, and we still cannot get over some of the scenes, ideas and emotions this film dealt with. ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ still remains the top song in playlist of many people who plans to cry.

2. Gangs Of Wasseypur: Part 1 & 2, 2012

No huge stars, no grand promotions, no big director. The two GOW films had nothing going in favour of them when they released. As a result, they were no show at the box office.

But later when these films were discovered by movie lovers, thanks to piracy, the word of mouth spread like fire. Both films became top of the list of peoples recommendation. The characters, songs, dialogues etc of the films have developed their own fan following. As a result, these two films are among the top entries in our list.

3. Go Goa Gone! , 2013

Every Indian youngster plans to go to goa with friends. But what if your Goa vacations turn into a Zombie adventure?

Zom-Com: A genre that was never explored in India before. The film had a very well written script, some crackling scenes and enough zombies for you to roll !

We hope it was loved by audience then the way it is loved now. But hey, the good news is a sequel is already under production & is expected to release in 2021.

4. Guzaarish, 2010

If Guzaarish were made in Hollywood, it would have definitely picked up an Oscar. Sanjay Leela Bhansali dealt with the sensitive topic of euthanasia in this film brilliantly. The film had extraordinary acting by everyone in the cast accompanied with eye popping cinematography.

But sadly, all this didn’t work at the box office. It had come right after Kites, an ambitious Hrithik starter project that had badly bombed. As a result the vibe around the star was not so good. All this was accompanied with not so commercial aspects of the film. As a result, this one flopped badly !

5. Masaan, 2015

The superstar of today Vicky Kaushal did not had so much ‘superstar-ish’ start. His debut film Masaan came and went away without any anyone noticing but with the time as Vicky is becoming bigger and bigger start, people are checking out his earlier work.

And to everyone’s surprise Masaan is now considered one solid film that needs to be watched by everyone. From its themes to characters, from acting to direction, everything is being loved. Do check it out on Netflix if you have not still watched this gem.

At the end, let’s hope for good cinema to work more and more and filmmakers gets encouraged to explore new themes and ideas and commercial viability is no more something that stops them to achieve this excellence.
